You are wise to be cautious about the pick list suggestion. I would
suggest not overloading trplayer with a lot of bells and whistles, nice as
those features might be. In this case there are existing tools that might
do the pick list thing independently of trplayer. The Pine mailer package
comes with the editor Pico and also with a file browser called Pilot which
has lots of nice features. One can cursor up and down a list of files and
do many things when a file is under the cursor. One of those things is to
"launch" an arbitrary application with the selected file as an
argument. If one uses pilot together with a very simple script to simplify
the command line, the pick list functionality can be had without adding a
single line of code to trplayer.
