Hello Spence,

In the past, I've always tried to find real player software through the netscape site. 
 At the moment, however, they only seem to have real player 10 listed.

Old versions of realplayer can be found at the following address, which works fine in 
lynx.  The linux versions are at the bottom.

If I remember correctly, there never was a realplayer 9 for linux.  But, there is an 
"RV9 Codec pack" which allows rp8 to handle rp 9 media.
