Midwives who assisted with the home births of my children showed a slide presentation to us, put out by a group of mothers against circumcision, headed by, and I am not kidding, Elizabeth Wiener. Having seen a presentation of modern methods of performing the surgery, I am convinced that the best methods are not those used by medical doctors. The best is done by Rabbis, who traditionally swaddle a baby and the infant has a sense of security, not to mention, a few drops of wine. I could not prove that it is necessary in the scriptures because of Paul's writings. There may be health benefits to the practice. But, it seems to me that if it is indeed a matter of health, God would have created us born that way. Searching OT texts, I find that it was a means by which God kept Israel from intermarriage with the nations about them. God forbade this primarily for the reason that he did not want His chosen people to learn the ways of the heathen, abominations such as the precursors to Xmas celebrations today mentioned in Jeremiah 10, and child sacrifice of passing one's seed to the god Moloch.
