Good is defined by the utility of the action. If I love my child and feed her and nourish her, that is good because the fruit of my actions is beneficial. It doesn't matter whether God declares it good or not. It would be good whether God declared it good or not, and even if there was no God, it would still be good. Nevertheless, we understand that God is always on the side of good, so in complicated matters that involve knowledge which we lack, we can trust the Word of God so that we can be sure that what he calls evil is truly evil and what he calls good is truly good.
