I've seen a lot of talk on TT about the centrality of the person of Jesus and how being in
"relationship" and hanging with him is what will unify the Church.

My questions are:
1.  Who is Jesus aside from the doctrine of Christ - since He is not a doctrine?
2.  How can we be sure we are hanging with Him and that we are one of His?

A doctrine change is a [significant] thinking change.

Jesus Christ is not a doctrine. He, and his relationship with us, is the constant.
