If Original Sin means that we are born guilty and deserving of hell then Jesus was born guilty by His human nature, and could never have been the Sinless Lamb of God who died for our sins.

jt: I'm not exactly sure what the term "Original Sin" means Izzy.  I find most of what the Church Fathers wrote to be contradictory and quite confusing and this is where the concept of the "Eternal Son" and that of "Original Sin" originate.

Your point about Jesus being "the sinless Lamb of God" is excellent and He could never have been that if he was born with a human nature (exactly like ours) generated by natural procreation through the first Adam.  In fact if this is how he was then why a virgin birth?  What was the point?  Mary and Joseph might just as well have had him by natural procreation and God could have claimed him as holy since he was the first male to open the womb and anointed Him with the fullness of the Spirit - right?

No there is a reason for the "virgin birth" and it has to do with Jesus' humanity. My own belief is that because the "iniquities of the fathers" are a generational (spiritual) rather than a genealogical (natural) inheritance is why the virgin birth was necessary.  If Jesus had Joseph for a natural father he would have been born in that families sin with Joseph's generational iniquity (or curses).  However, since God was His father and He chose life overcoming in the three areas where A&E were tempted and Adam fell, He was able to submit to the cross as a "sinless Lamb" and it was at Calvary that He became a sacrifice to pay the price for my sin and yours along with the sin of the world.

Grace and Peace,
