Allowing for the claim of "Christian" does not mean anything eternally. If I admonish you as a brother and you are a fraud, does that negate the admonition? And isn't II Thess 3:14-15 telling us that being a "brother" and being "saved" (potentially) two different things? the fact of the matter is this: we have more influence over a "family member" than we do over a stranger. The brother in II Thess is excluded from certain activities but included as a brother.
