TCPINC (in the TSV Area) met Wednesday before the plenary. Since Prague, the WG has two new chairs (Mirja Kuehlewind, David Black) and has now adopted three drafts, a TCP encryption negotiation option (TCP-ENO) draft and two drafts for security protocols that will be negotiated via that option, tcpcrypt and a TLS profile for TCP (aka TCP-use-TLS). There was also WG meeting discussion of proposed socket and OS API modifications for TCP-ENO. Discussion of a possible STUN-like service to check functionality (e.g., wrt NATs) and related use of DHCP suggested that a separate draft would be appropriate rather than tacking this material onto an API draft. Discussion also favored simplicity of the TLS profile for TCP - all support for certificates and versions of TLS other than TLS 1.3 belongs in a separately identified protocol profile that could also be negotiated via TCP-ENO. The WG hopes to have sufficiently complete, detailed and stable protocol specifications that will be suitable for external expert review (e.g., Transport, Security) by sometime in February of next year. Thanks, --David (for David & Mirja)
