I've backed out the /idMethod="native"/ change in Table.java on the 2.1
branch and put the diff here:

http://sites.netscape.net/ekkerbj/patches/Table.java.patch and I've attached
it if it gets through.

I'm not sure if there are other areas that need to be backed out, but this
change worked for us.  Our apps work as before, but I only tested with
Sybase.  Seems someone may want to try Oracle, or something that uses
'sequence'?
