This may seem a bit farfetched i would prefer that maven resolved dependencies by 'installing' applications/libraries rather than by downloading jars.
That way the developer gets the same view of a product as the end user. And when something doesnt work all the docs and associated things are available. It would standardise the way that we deploy and run as well as build projects. Similar i guess to how Gentoo linux works http://Gentoo.org/ The dependency resolution just needs to be changed to reference the POM for the project you are dependent apon. You can then download the POM from its project home or from a central POM repository. anyone else been thinking along these lines?
