You don't need to use CVS to use Maven. -You only need it if you want to use
Maven to generate statistics reports from the CVS repository.

But I agree that support for other SCMs would be great. There is a lot of
nice SCM code in CruiseControl, and I'm sure the Maven developers are aware
of that.
