if you use Torque, this pool is created and managed for you. You don't have to do anything.

Hi all,
I am developing a web application that will need to store persistent
user information in a database. As such, I would like to manage a pool
of database connections, and dispatch them as necessary to requests.
Would anyone be able to explain how to go about this ? Or perhaps point me in the right direction? I would be very greatful.
Thanks,
Chris
