Thanks for the reply Peter... but I'm wondering if simply allowing the 
ant init build the tables (still causing an error for the javac, but 
maybe that's ok...?), then switching to ant project-om with the updated 
project schema file (which includes the Turbine_* tables, and runs 
successfully) is enough?  After working this process, and going to the 
sample-app, it seems to login and function correctly... could I still be 
missing something, or might I have fluked on a solution?  I suppose that 
the real question is whether or not I must do any editing to the 
pre-built security classes?

If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try to restate it... 
I'm just trying to summarize from my initial "screw up" email ;).

and omit any additional attributes for the user class the author 
introduces.
it works fine, but make sure you carefully read and follow the document.

i can't help you with the errors you got, but i could imagine it is 
easier to
just start from scrap (save any classes you changed and your schema) and
start over again?
