while loops in velocity templates

Anyone know if it's possible to do while loops in velocity templates?  
If not, is there any work-around that you've developed?  I was 
considering having a condition that just adds elements to my innate 
forLoop-list until my while-condition had been met, but this seems like 
a dirty hack.

Also, if this is the wrong forum to discuss this on, please let me know; 
it's just nice to deal with one community.
