Have also obtained specified versions of activation.jar, mail.jar, jndi.jar and jdbc2_0-stdext.jar (there is no jdbc-2.0.jar that I can find) and put these under c:/maven/repository that I created. Is this correct?Nope, in order to let maven find jars you have to put them in your home directory, under the:
.maven/repository/[jarname]/jars/
directory.
In example for jdbc you've to rename the jar like the name requested by maven (jdbc-2.0.jar i guess), and then put them under:
[your home dir]/.maven/repositry/jdbc/jars/jdbc-2.0.jar
Hope this help, regards, alessio.
