I by now means want to appear overly negative here, but I'm now thoroughly
confused as to what is going on with the snapshots. I've been using
turbine for about 6 months, and decided yesterday was the day I would
upgrade to that latest version, and starting looking at a template system
(WM macro for now since from I read the Velocity interface will be
synchronized with WMs). Fine I can wait. I'm willing to bend the GPL
until this all gets straightened out. Anyway after nearly a full day I was
unable to get it working.

Like everyone else here, I'm really busy, but it is important to my project
that turbine stabilizes. So I'm going to offer some help on the
installation documentation (which I believe is sparse and out of date). I
really think we need to go line by line through the conf files and explain
what certain variables mean (I think some of the comments are
incorrect). Also an install script which queries for certain required
paths maybe in order. I'm a fairly seasoned java programmer and have
compiled and installed OS software for a few years now. I honestly believe
this one of the most difficult packages I've ever tried to install (well
maybe give XFree86 in the early days).

I'm willing to start with a fresh build today and do a top down (as a
potential new user) install with the specified docs, and offer
comments. Since I'm not involved with development it maybe easier for me
to see some of the problems. Anyone want to work with me on this in
private e-mail? If not I'm going to just start posting questions as they
come up to the list. It my intention to benefit the project and not just
clutter the list. If anyone objects, let me know.

I'm going to install on RH6.1 with home rolled Apache 1.2.13/mod_ssl/jServ
1.1.2/Java 1.1.8. I do believe ASF considers this a production environment
which turbine supports.

Ok first question. It is not clear where to start anymore. The TDK seems
sparse right now, and only available straight from CVS, so I assume I start
where I always have. With the turbine snapshot. Correct?
