I would consider myself to meet the profile for your "new user". Here is
some of the information I have been looking for and questions I am trying to
answer:
General
---------
- (Prerequisites for using your lessons - assumed familiarity with Java,
databases, xml, other...)
- Turbine/lesson requirements (OS, database, jdk, etc.)
Torque
-------
I would be most interested in a "lesson" on Torque. After looking at the
build/project folder, I was able to see how to have the TDK create my simple
database/table. I cannot find, however, how to create foreign keys (either
literally in the database, or logically using the peer classes). Also, how
do I do more complex sql queries?
I would use the following sections:
- XML structure(s) for creating tables
- peer Methods for generating equivalent SQL queries
- Using Torque to add tables/peers to a pre-existing database (if this is
possible).
Turbine
--------
Sections I would find useful:
-getting started using the TDK (this is basically done on the web site)
Appendix - what did the TDK build for you (src files, databases/tables,
templates...)
- Selecting a template engine (Velocity, JSP, WebMacro...)
- Adding login functionality
- Creating a new screen from scratch
creating the screen
creating the class
creating peers (see torque above)
- Creating new actions
In general - at least personally - I learn more when the documents are in
the form of a tutorial, so that I am creating a demo app as I learn the
lessons.
Many of these items I have found peppered in the Maillist or web site. The
hurdle is determining if posted solutions are viable using the TDK, or if I
need to download the CVS (In which case, add a section on "How to create a
development install of turbine/torque/tdk from cvs).
Just my 1-cents (perhaps overpriced at that)
Steve B.
