This parameter was passed directly (not as keyword parameters dict) to the
render method. The patch using **options does exactly the same, except
that it allows arbitrary names, not only "mapping". So if we follow that
route, we would be automatically backward compatible concerning "mapping"
and don't need to do anything about that.
