I'd like to point out something that pushed me off of TurboGears a couple of years ago (and I was reminded of today because I happen to still be subscribed to a few bugs in Trac).
See: http://trac.turbogears.org/ticket/291 Notice that I filed this bug *3 years* ago. Note that *today* it was suggested that this bug is user-error. Of course, had I filed the bug today, this might be true. At the time I filed this bug, it was, in fact, certainly an issue with TurboGears (TG was forcing the port to 8080 if it was set to any "False" value (i.e. '', None)). The code has changed so much in the last 3 years that this bug was probably inadvertently fixed, but this wasn't noted in Trac, so any dev attempting to follow up today (3 years after the fact) was just wasting his valuable time (not to mention it was mildly irksome to me). At the end of the day, it seems that the TG developers want bugs entered into Trac (and understandably so), but that this appears to be the last place bugs are actually addressed. It's a waste of time for users to report bugs in Trac and it's a waste of developer time following up on bugs that are months or years old. There's no need to rehash the well-known information that the TG devs are busy or that they are volunteers. Everyone ought to know this. But as I point out, the current process seems to be counter-productive for everyone, devs included, so this criticism is meant to point out a problem in the current process that could help save some of the developer's precious time if it's addressed. This is meant to be helpful criticism, so please take it as such. I'm hoping to return to TG with the release of 2.0, but frankly this reminder today gave me pause on that decision.
