Where is the difference? Throw away the old VE, install a new.
Otherwise, version-mixtures and other setuptools-hellholes open up.

I developed a small app for my company (deployboy) that exactly does that:

  - create a fresh ve
  - check out a fresh SVN workingcopy of our codebase
  - invoke "python setup.py develop", where python is of course the
VE-python
  - be happy.

The whole thing is additionally goverened by a EggBasket instance with a
fixed versionset. However, this is not as important if there is a clean
way to install TG2 from scratch.
