I actually prefer 2 myself for templates just to control indentation
amounts better, but good to hear.

I the case of manuals I think that is often fine, but for looping
constructs I'm partial to laying it out. Here's what that is looking
like in my scratch pad:

<ul id="menu-left" class="component list-menu vert">
  <li py:for="title,url in menu_side">
    <a href="$url">$title</a>
  </li>
</ul>

(NB: the id is optional and not required by the framework so that it is
easy for everyone to pop in their own choice of semantic ids. The
default css behaviours come from tag, class, and inheritance only.
