I've got nothing useful to add to this, other than to mention that I
am seeing this problem too. I still haven't figured out the pattern to
when this occurs though, it seems random to me.
Whereabouts do I need to add 'KID_OUTPUT_PY="true"' to generate the
.py files?
I just svn updated earlier today too.

Set an environment variable for it. It worked for me.
