xHTML isn't tollerant, either, you just think it is because your webbrowser works around YOUR bugs instead of warning you about them.
On a general note, always be careful when using others' HTML, I hardly ever see snippets which are xHTML-complient. Google are the worst. In fact the only snippet code which works that I've seen in big business is Overture's contextual ad service, because I helped write it :-) Oh and Microsoft's MSN search.
