Did you use one of the pre-packaged window installers for MySQL?

You may want to try the prepackaged installer for the Python Bindings
avalable at:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=22307&package_id=15775

You might have to go a version or two back to get a .exe file, but it
should install without a hitch.

But I'd spend the time on Postgres first...   You seem to be closer there.
