Yes, we probably can, but it does not have proper unicode support, AFAIK.

actually the only place where Cheetah is needed for TG to work is the
config environment (the part that takes care of "tg-admin quickstart"
so there is no need for unicode here. I have try (unsussefully) in the
pass to take out this dependency but having support for so, sa, tg
big, and default ends up needing a lot of template dirs and in the end
is better to still have cheetah, this will probably be replaced in 2.0
with either something based on genshi text templates or paster.

That might work for those packages, where the included C module only
links to libc and libpthreads. pysqlite also links to libsqlite3, and
this will probably have a different version under other Ubuntu releases.
well the db parts are not in the scope of TG anyway, "you should get
those on your own" since a) they are not python packages b) you will
probably need them for other projects. \

As far as I know all TG-C modules only depend on libc and python-dev,
so yes it should work.

I'm in the process of cleanning my drive, going to do a full reformat
so I'll try this while at it.
