I don't know anything about dreamhost. But since no one else has answered your question, I'll put in a plug for www.slicehost.com. I am not affiliated with them, just a (so-far) happy customer.
They give you a virtual xen computer. I'm running ubuntu on mine. Of course, you have to know how to and be willing to spent the time to administer it. But I like the added flexibility.
