Verified (Kubuntu Feisty with its default Python 2.5). Many, many
pages of error messages on installation, ending in

src/_namemapper.c:479: error: called object '*(&<erroneous-
expression>)' is not a function
src/_namemapper.c:479: warning: statement with no effect
error: Setup script exited with error: command 'gcc' failed with exit
status 1

sudo apt-get install libc6-dev fixed it.

Thanks so much - I was really getting frustrated until I found your
post!
