Since you say "the" related user, this sounds like you want a many to 
one relationship, but above you're talking about association objects 
which sounds more like many to many. So which one do you need? Also, do 
you have symmetrical relations (e.g. user A is friend of user B) or are 
your relations not necessarily symmetric (e.g. A is boss of B)?
