I have read the TG book, which helped, though since it's 1.0 and I've only worked with 2.0+, I've had to adapt.
The 2.1 docs are much more complete, much more thoroughly linked. I recommend using them where possible. For me, though, there is one page, above all others, that once I read showed me what happens with TurboGears. No other page was even close to being as helpful. If you're trying to figure out what goes on under the hood, this is the page to read. Once you do, and once you understand it, the way TG works will make sense.
