I, personally, have deployed three separate instances of Apache/mod_wsgi/TG into production. I know others have done the same. The only issues I've had were things like permissions issues, using zipped files when unzipped was better, etc. In other words, nothing more than the usual rigamarole of rolling out to production.
What errors did you get exactly? Without knowing that, we can't tell you what's wrong. As of now, your original question seems to be solved, so what's left?
