By some miracle of the gods smiling and the planets aligning, a comp.lang.python thread that started with the question "ElementTree - Why not part of the core?" has actually resulted in ElementTree *becoming* part of the core for Python 2.5! Pretty cool! So the core Python distribution will finally have a Pythonic XML processor.
