I haven't tried web.py, but my experience with Django is the opposite of yours. Of course, I came to Django after climbing the learning curve of zope, so Django felt easy to deal with in comparison. It just seemed that each time I encountered a behavior that I wanted to change I could quickly locate the source, make the changes, and continue moving forward.
