I don't know much about Mint 16. It might help if you tell us what you've actually tried, and what error you got. As an alternative to numpy, or possibly as well as numpy, you might like to try the statistics library which will appear in Python 3.4. As the author of that library, I would be very, very grateful for bug reports or other feedback. The statistics.py library is much, much smaller than numpy.
