I found python festival & sphinx2 bindings :)

Still, most of the projects that use speech recog&synth seem to be
perl-based. And most of them use ViaVoice.

They're still available at
http://users.wpi.edu/~squirrel/programs/others/ (if you had a link to
squirrel.isa-geek.org or squirrel.res.wpi.net both those servers are
defunct), but I haven't updated them in over two years so I'm not sure
if they still work with newer versions of Festival and Sphinx.  Let me
know if you still have trouble.
