I think that what she has to lose is a little of the power from her self-depiction as the victim of the NY-Hollywood condescending elites. Palin only helps McCain with the base, not the undecideds and moderate leaners who might be favorably impressed with a sophisticated show of self-deprecating humor on SNL. I don't think she will hurt herself in the sense of losing support from the Base if she goes on SNL, but just that she will be undercutting her main message, with little hope of really helping herself much. I think there is almost no chance that she will come off badly on SNL, and will probably be seen as funny and likable by many, I just don't think that could possibly help McCain as much as keeping the angry fires of hate stoked in the base. If she does go on (and she might, just because it would be a way to get her on national television in a very controlled way) I think she should insist that whatever she does sticks it to SNL as much as it makes fun of herself. Having read the Yiddish Policeman' Union this summer, what I would really like to see is some kind of SNL skit riffing on that theme, but it is probably too obscure and non-political. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Like TV only smarter.
