Stratton was seen with Jerry Dunphy on KNXT (now KCBS) every night on "The Big News," then LA's dominant newscast--he started as an actor, appearing in "Stalag 17," "The Wild One" and the TV series version of the Martin-Lewis film "That's My Boy" (playing Lewis' role as the inept jock), from which he was offered the sportscasting gig at KNXT:
