Maybe it is just wishful thinking on my part, but McCain's closing
remarks sounded a lot like a consolation speech, while Obama seemed to
exude confidence.

I thought this debate was stylistically a tie, but it cemented in many
ways why I cannot vote for McCain. After two years of obfuscation,
ideas were clearly outlined and the differences were clearly laid out.
But, again, in terms of style, both played to their respective bases.
McCain had to act somewhat brusk, stubborn, and set in his ways, or
risk losing his core supporters. And Obama had to play nicer than he
might have wanted.
