And while I have marveled at some of the talent who has appeared on the show over the decades, people once tuned in because of the writing instead of the stunt casting. And there was a time SNL would go so far as to experiment with unknown guest performers (season two had an early magic routine by Ricky Jay, season three has a downright bizarre stand up segment by Richard Belzer, and even in the eighties, Joel Hodgson of MST3k fame would do prop comedy... and there was that Man in the Moon guy, too). -- Kevin M.
