Last night, BBC2 aired "Margaret," a made-for about how Prime Minister
Thatcher found herself swept out of office, starring Lindsay Duncan as
Thatcher and that first-season "Whose Line?" madcap John Sessions as
her hsuband--digest of critics' reviews:

Meanwhile, in the main grades the staunch Tory Thatcher would care
about, "Margaret" only pulled a 12 share at 9 p.m. against a Billy
Connolly travelogue on ITV and the 10 p.m. newscasts on BBC1 and ITV,
wasting half of the lead-in from the finale of "MasterChef," which I
assume is sort of their "Top Chef":

"MasterChef" did unusually well for the "minority channel," beating
the long-running cop soap "The Bill" on ITV and only being beat by a
BBC1 tribute to Wendy Richard, the long-time star of
"EastEnders" (known by U.S. public TV viewers more for her ditzy shop
clerk on "Are You Being Served?") who died yesterday.

I do find it ironic that BBC2 delayed the start of "Newsnight" 20
minutes to 10:50 p.m. last night so that a show on the seemingly-prim
and proper Margaret Thatcher could air within the 9 p.m. adult
programming "watershed." I will expect that "Margaret" will be airing
this fall on "Masterpiece Contemporary" over here.
