For those who don't follow British media, Jade Goody is a reality TV personality who was despised and hated by viewers, critics, and even the tabloid press... until she was diagnosed with a fatal disease, at which point she magically transformed into a brave and courageous woman.
Having learned about her through many British shows and podcasts I enjoy (3 years ago, one of my favorites, Mitch Benn, penned a song about Goody entitled, "No Offense, Love, But Why Are You Still Here?"), I certainly don't wish disease or death upon her. That said, I also don't see any need to launch her from the bottom of the barrel she once fed upon and place her on some media-manufactured pedestal. The same thing happened when Tony Snow died a while back. In his private life, he may have been kind to small animals and children, but his public persona was that of an offensive, double-talking, two-faced blowhard. I didn't want his life cut short any more than I want Goody's cut short, but neither deserves the adoration they received. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20090227/tuk-jade-goody-in-hospice-after-hallucin-45dbed5.html -- Kevin M.
