That is a shame - I am at the age where, when I hear the death of
someone at age 59, I think "so young?".

It was just recently that I heard someone on the Pollock Chat Show
(was it Jason Lee?) talk about how he thought Hughes was too often
forgotten and under-rated these days. I am not exactly a big fan of
his work, which was mostly good compared to the crap that was being
made in similar categories at the time. I have seen *The Breakfast
Club* literally 30 times (I show it every quarter for a class I teach
once or twice a year), and I have actually grown to like the film more
over the years, as my deep and profound irritation with most of the
actors in the cast has faded as we all have gotten old. Bueller
remains a real classic - I watched it with my son last summer before
our trip to Chicago; but the truth is, putting aside all pretense to
art or meaning, one of the 5 movies that has pulled the most laughs
per inch of film from my gut is Planes, Trains and Automobiles (I am
not sure where that fits in the Kevin's chronology above with the
Christmas Vacation films - it might be a little before that cut-off;
my allergy to Chevy Chase prevented me from enjoying any of the
Vacation films).
