I have little doubt that "Hurt Locker" is a better film, but for me
the difference is that "Avatar" (for all its many faults -- I found it
"meh" at best) is something that has to be seen on the big screen to
fully experience it, and "Hurt Locker" will probably look as good and
be as effective on the home screen. "Avatar" probably represents where
Hollywood will be going in the next five-seven years (as unfortunate
as that idea is), and will probably win on that basis.

Not that an Oscar is any indication of quality.
