This is about what my own tracking of the 10:00 slot for NBC suggests, but a few questions remain unanswered here. With all the emphasis NBC placed on justifying reduced ratings for Leno with even more greatly reduced costs, shouldn't we now be getting some measure of how much more costly the 10:00 pm hour (or other hours if material was shifted to 10:00 to cover) is for NBC to program, vs Leno? In other words, for the 45% improvement in ratings to be good news, wouldn't it also have to be true that the increased costs of replacement programming were less than 45%? The other omission that surprised me was any mention of contribution to revenue in the 1Q from the late night segment. How much to The Tonight Show make 1Q 2010 vs 1Q 2009, and 4th Q 2009? Seems like NBC would be wanting to blow the horn about this a bit. My TV was tuned to the CBS Morning show today and they ran a piece on Conan going to TBS; their backgrounder was a simple something like: "Conan, fired earlier this year by NBC because of horrible ratings...". Score that a victory for the NBC-Jay Leno PR machine. If I had to write a short intro for that piece, it would have been more like: "Conan, fired earlier this year by NBC because of Jay Leno's horrible ratings at 10:00..." -- TV or Not TV ....
