One of the things that Amazon.com does is a Gold Box lightning deal, which
is a brief (up to three hour) sale of a supposedly limited -- but
undisclosed -- quantity of merchandise. Thus the sale lasts for either three
hours or until they sell out of the quantity that they set aside for the
sale. There's also a deal of the day which lasts the entire day. Sometimes
the discounts can be substantial. (I managed to get 70% off of a external
drive). Though sometimes the discounts are more mundane. (Today's $5 off on
a towel.)

Starting Monday May 3rd, the sales will be of TV shows on DVD. The list of
shows on sale is here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?&docId=1000497491
According to the link, they'll show the day's sale price that day at 12am
Pacific.
