Here's a follow up article from the point of view of the advertisers: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100804/media_nm/us_ptc
My favorite quote from this story is from one ad man who said, "It is certainly not one of the most anticipated programs of the season," then he added, "It is another sitcom with an interesting title." And that seems to me to be as far as the development process went for the series. Instead of the PTC, there really ought to be a different group who discourages people from watching a show, not because of any potential offensiveness, but because the premise is f*cking pathetic. Archie Bunker was a cantankerous racist asshole, but viewers saw him as a product of a bygone generation, so they were able to laugh at his prejudices and dismiss his derogatory comments. But that was 30 f*cking years ago. In an era when the teabaggers are trying to revive those bygone days, this series has the potential (intentionally or not) to aid them. I, for one, don't want them to have their country back. Besides, asking Shatner to play an asshole is like asking George Bush to play an illiterate dumbass. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) -- TV or Not TV ....
