We are now about three or four weeks from the point last year that Conan
began to drop, and where Leno will have a chance to catch and maybe pass
him. I suspect the NBC brass already have their press releases typed and
ready to go claiming the victory over Coco (and, oddly, themselves). They
probably wont mention that, if this happens, the difference will be in the
ratings of the 10:00 lead-in that each show had.

To be fair to Leno, the summer comparison is a bit unfair to him - it is
including Conan's curiosity look-ins the first few weeks, plus Leno has been
in reruns several weeks this summer, while Conan probably was not in reruns
at all.

One potentially ominous sign for NBC is that, while Leno is down vs the
Tonight Show last year (and his own version of the TS 2 years ago) the other
4 network late night shows are either stable or up from last summer.

And of course, while its meaning is suspect, I do like the note from yahoo
that this summer Leno has pulled the lowest ratings in the history of the
Tonight Show (I am sure Leno will soon be announcing that he is quitting
since he has ruined the Tonight Show franchise, and ratings losers do not
deserve their own tv show).
