The better analogy for my money is Rick Reilly, who wrote one of the greatest pieces of journalism with his Marge Schott profile in SI in 1996 (I remember reading it over and over again when I got that issue, just because it flowed so incredibly well). He's a parody of himself now, a columnist at ESPN.com that steals material from himself and repeats it.
