I can't tell if he is saying he can make more money turning his rough diamond, never produced pilots into serieis than he can reclaiming canceled shows, or if he is saying that saving old shows gives the 101 a hand-me-down, we eat other people's garbage vibe that he wants to get away from. It seems like a canceled show that has a demonstrated potential to attract 1 - 2 million viewers would be a better bet than a pilot rejected by 8 or 10 other outlets, and he doesn't seem to mind eating HBO's garbage, so I guess it is more the prestige thing, -- TV or Not TV ....
