I agree the segment with Stewart was a disappointment - particularly because Williams is such a good guest on TDS. It seemed like Stewart really did not know what was expected of him - was he supposed to provide comic relief, or was Williams going to try to have at least a little serious discussion of current events (like OWS). The North Dakota Story was excellent, the Syria piece was less so - again surprisingly. It was plenty gripping, but in the end it seemed a lot more sizzle than content, and I was not exactly sure what was learned from the the heroics of what did seem a dangerous border crossing. Frankly, I fast forwarded through the piece by the blond woman who looks like the actress on Modern Family (I watched the whole thing this morning before going to work and had to jump in the shower, and I wanted to see JS). I have not watched Dateline or 20-20 in years, this seemed a lot better than either of those. It felt mostly like a news version of Bryant Gumbel's HBO Sports show, which I mean mostly as a compliment (although Williams is less obnoxious than Gumbel). I don't know that TV journalism as practiced 20 years ago is a very high bar - I seem to remember bitching about how shabby it was becoming even then. But yes, it was less bad then, and this was less bad than most of what is on now. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
