On a similar sound note, the NBA consistently fails to mike the crowd for its All-Star Saturday contests (the Dunk Contest being the last one of the night) or for the pre-game musical performances. I don't expect game-level noise, but it usually sounds worse than when the home crowd is taken out of a game.
MLB at least manages to get some crowd noise consistent with expectations for its All-Star preliminaries.
